Remote STP Monitoring: What It Costs and What It Catches (AquaVigil Example)

Remote STP monitoring with AquaVigil costs ₹4,999, ₹9,999 or ₹24,999 per plant per month, exclusive of GST, plus a gateway and any missing sensors quoted after a site survey. For that, it watches flow, outlet quality, dissolved oxygen and equipment around the clock and sends a WhatsApp alert when the plant goes outside its limits, a pump trips or the plant goes offline.

What does remote STP monitoring cost?

AquaVigil has three tiers, priced per plant per month and exclusive of GST: Watch at ₹4,999, Comply at ₹9,999 and Operate at ₹24,999. The gateway and sensors are quoted separately after a site survey, because most plants already have some instruments, such as flow and pH, and only need the missing ones added. Annual billing gets two months free, and multi-plant and CETP pricing is on request.

The Watch tier is currently free for the first 3 months; see the AquaVigil page for the current offer.

TierPrice per plant per monthWhat it adds
Watch₹4,999Up to 6 parameters, live dashboard with 90-day history, WhatsApp and email alerts, daily summary message
Comply₹9,999Everything in Watch, OCEMS parameters at outlet, monthly compliance report PDF, 5-year data archive, audit log for PCB inspection
Operate₹24,999Everything in Comply, daily review of your plant by an NBW engineer, chemical and energy optimisation, bundled with AMC or O&M

What does it measure?

Remote monitoring measures four groups of parameters. Flow covers inlet and treated-water flow, daily totals and recycle ratio. Outlet quality covers pH, TSS or turbidity, a BOD-COD surrogate and residual chlorine at the final outlet. Process health covers dissolved oxygen, tank levels, blower and MBR pressure and dosing pump status. Equipment and energy covers pump and blower run hours, trips, dry running and kWh per KL treated.

What problems does it catch?

It catches the faults that usually go unnoticed until a complaint or an inspection. AquaVigil raises an alert when:

  • The plant or gateway goes offline.
  • Outlet pH or TSS goes outside consent limits.
  • Dissolved oxygen is low in the aeration tank.
  • A pump trips, runs dry or a tank overflows.
  • Energy use spikes against the baseline.
  • A sensor is stuck or drifting.

Low dissolved oxygen is a good example. It is one of the most common causes of STP odour, and it usually comes from a blower that has tripped, been switched off or is undersized. On site, nobody notices until the plant smells; with monitoring, the alert arrives the same day. Our guide on fixing STP odour explains why.

How is it installed?

A 4G gateway reads the plant PLC or panel over Modbus, or connects to 4–20 mA instruments directly. Installation is usually one day on site and the plant keeps running. Readings go to an India-hosted platform every minute. If the connection drops, the gateway buffers readings on site and back-fills them when the link returns, and you get an offline alert.

The dashboard works on web and phone. Your operators, your consultant and Navbharat Water engineers see the same screen. It uses open standards (MQTT and SQL export), so you can leave and take your data with you.

Is remote monitoring the same as OCEMS?

No. OCEMS sends selected outlet parameters to the regulator. AquaVigil runs beside OCEMS, not instead of it: it covers the operating parameters the regulator does not see, such as dissolved oxygen, pump trips and energy, which are the early signs that an outlet problem is coming. For units under the OCEMS rules, see our CPCB OCEMS guide.

What records and reports does it keep?

Regulators pick inspections from exceedance alerts, missing data and offline periods. AquaVigil keeps a tamper-evident log of every reading, every alert and every acknowledgement, and keeps 15-minute averages in the OCEMS style. The Comply tier adds a 5-year archive, an audit log for PCB inspection and a monthly compliance report PDF ready for a CPCB or SPCB audit.

Which tier should you choose?

Choose Watch if you want to know the plant is running and get alerts, for example a housing society or hotel STP. Choose Comply if you need records for consent renewal and inspection, or your outlet parameters are already under scrutiny. Choose Operate if you want Navbharat Water engineers reviewing the plant daily, which comes bundled with an AMC or O&M contract.

Monitoring tells you what is wrong; someone still has to fix it. If the plant already has problems, start with a free plant health audit so the monitoring begins from a plant that works.

Frequently asked questions

How much does remote STP monitoring cost?

AquaVigil costs ₹4,999 (Watch), ₹9,999 (Comply) or ₹24,999 (Operate) per plant per month, exclusive of GST. The gateway and any sensors your plant is missing are quoted after a site survey. Annual billing gets two months free.

Does the plant have to shut down for installation?

No. The gateway reads the plant PLC or panel over Modbus, or wires to 4–20 mA instruments directly. Installation is usually one day on site and the plant keeps running.

Is AquaVigil the same as OCEMS?

No. AquaVigil runs beside OCEMS, not instead of it. It covers operating parameters the regulator does not see, such as dissolved oxygen, pump trips and energy use, and keeps the compliance record you need for an inspection.

What happens if the internet connection drops?

The gateway buffers readings on site and back-fills them when the link returns. You also get an offline alert, because a plant that stops reporting is the same signal a regulator looks for.

Who owns the monitoring data?

You do. Data is hosted in India, can be exported at any time and is deleted on request if you leave.
