What it is and when to use it
The NWPL pleated filter cartridge uses pleated polypropylene media and cage in DOE and SOE end configurations, with ratings from 0.2 to 30 micron. Use it for fine and sterile-grade filtration, where a large media area delivers precise retention with lower pressure drop than a depth cartridge of the same rating.
Pleating folds a thin, fine filter medium into a compact cylinder, packing much more surface area into the same cartridge size. That extra area keeps pressure drop low and flow high at fine ratings, which is why pleated cartridges are used for final filtration, high-purity water and pharmaceutical duties.
NWPL offers 0.2, 0.45, 1, 5, 10 and 30 micron ratings in lengths of 10″, 20″, 30″ and 40″, with 2–3″ diameters. DOE (double open end) cartridges seal at both ends and are compressed in the housing. SOE (single open end) cartridges have one closed end and an O-ring fitting that gives a more positive seal, which is preferred for critical fine filtration.

What is the difference between DOE and SOE pleated cartridges?
DOE (double open end) cartridges are open at both ends and seal by compression inside the housing. SOE (single open end) cartridges have one closed end and an O-ring adapter at the other, which locks into the housing for a more positive seal. SOE is usually specified for critical fine filtration where bypass must be minimised.
Why use a pleated cartridge instead of a spun cartridge?
Pleated cartridges have much more surface area, so they run with lower pressure drop and higher flow at fine ratings. They are available down to 0.2 micron. Spun cartridges hold more dirt through their depth at coarser ratings and cost less. A common approach uses a spun cartridge as the pre-filter and a pleated cartridge as the final stage.
