What it is and when to use it

The NWPL PP filter bag is a polypropylene bag for removing suspended solids from liquids at moderate temperature (rated 90–100 °C). Choose it as the default, lowest-cost bag for water, wastewater and most aqueous chemical streams, especially where the liquid is acidic or alkaline.

Polypropylene is chemically inert to most acids, alkalis and salt solutions, which is why PP is the usual starting point for bag filtration in water treatment, plating rinse and chemical transfer duties. It is also the lighter and more economical of the two common bag materials, so it suits applications where bags are changed often and treated as consumables.

Its limits are temperature and strong oxidisers. Above roughly 90–100 °C PP softens, and strongly oxidising chemicals attack polyolefins over time. For hot liquids, move to the PE (polyester) bag or the TPF high-temperature bag. PP bags are offered from 1 to 300 micron in the two standard sizes, Size 1 (7″×16″) and Size 2 (7″×32″).

Use it for

  • Acidic or alkaline aqueous streams at normal temperature
  • Pre-filtration ahead of cartridges, UF or RO in water treatment
  • High change-out frequency, where a low cost per bag matters
  • Sanitary applications where corrosion resistance is required

How to choose

  1. Confirm the maximum liquid temperature stays within the 90–100 °C rating, including CIP or hot flushes
  2. Pick the micron rating from the particle size you must remove; a coarser upstream stage extends fine-bag life
  3. Choose Size 1 or Size 2 to match your housing; Size 2 is twice as long and offers roughly double the media area
  4. Check chemical compatibility for oxidisers and solvents with our team before ordering
  5. Estimate change-out frequency from flow and suspended-solids load, then compare cost per m³ filtered

Frequently asked questions

When should I choose a PP filter bag over a polyester (PE) bag?

Choose PP when the liquid is at or below about 90–100 °C and is acidic, alkaline or salt-bearing. Polypropylene handles pH extremes better than polyester and costs less, so it is the usual choice for water, wastewater and chemical transfer. Switch to PE when temperatures run higher or when you need the extra mechanical strength of polyester filament.

What micron ratings are available in the NWPL PP filter bag?

NWPL PP filter bags are available from 1 to 300 micron. Coarser ratings are typically used for protective or first-stage duties, while fine ratings polish the liquid before cartridges or membranes. If solids loading is high, a two-stage arrangement with a coarse bag ahead of a fine bag usually lowers overall bag consumption.

Will an NWPL PP bag fit my existing bag filter housing?

NWPL PP bags come in the two standard sizes: Size 1 (7″×16″) and Size 2 (7″×32″). Most single-bag housings are built around these dimensions, including the NWPL TDF and TFF 01/02 housings. Share your housing make or drawing with our team and we will confirm the collar and fit before dispatch.
