What it is and when to use it
The NWPL TXF is a cartridge filter housing for liquid filtration without bags. It accepts melt-blown, wire-wound and folding (pleated) cartridges. Use it for fine or precise filtration at moderate solids loads, such as RO pre-filtration, beverage and pharmaceutical duties, and chemical polishing.
Bag and cartridge housings do different jobs. Bag housings handle higher solids loads and larger particles at lower cost per change. Cartridge housings shine where finer ratings and tighter retention are needed and the liquid is already fairly clean, often as the final stage after a bag filter.
Because the TXF accepts three cartridge types, one housing can serve different duties. Melt-blown PP spun cartridges provide economical depth filtration, wire-wound cartridges suit oils and industrial water, and folding cartridges add large surface area at ratings down to 0.1 micron. The catalogue lists beverage, medicine and chemical industries as typical users.
Use it for
- RO and UF pre-filtration, typically after multimedia or bag filtration
- Fine polishing in beverage, pharmaceutical and chemical processes
- Low-to-moderate solids loads where cartridges last a practical time
- Applications that need to switch between cartridge types
How to choose
- Choose cartridge type and micron rating first, then match cartridge length and diameter
- Size the number of cartridges from design flow and the flow per cartridge length
- Confirm DOE or SOE end fitting compatibility for pleated cartridges
- Check operating pressure, temperature and seal materials
- Put a bag filter upstream if the solids load would clog cartridges too quickly
Frequently asked questions
Should I use a bag filter or a cartridge filter?
Use a bag filter for higher solids loads, larger particles and low cost per change. Use a cartridge filter for finer ratings and tighter retention when the liquid is already fairly clean. Many systems use both: a bag housing removes most solids, and a cartridge housing like the TXF polishes the liquid before RO, UF or filling.
Which cartridges fit the NWPL TXF housing?
The TXF is designed for melt-blown (PP spun), wire-wound and folding cartridges. That lets you pick economical depth cartridges for general duty or pleated cartridges for fine and high-purity filtration in the same housing. Confirm cartridge length, diameter and end fittings with us when ordering.
Why is a cartridge housing used before RO membranes?
RO membranes are easily damaged or fouled by fine particles, so a cartridge filter acts as the final safety barrier just before the high-pressure pump. It catches particles that slip past upstream filters or form after chemical dosing. NWPL RO membrane manuals list limits of SDI15 5 and turbidity 1 NTU on the feed.
